Sin City: An adaptation of Frank Miller’s stories based in the fictional town of Sin City. Chief amongst the town’s residents is Marv, who trawls the darkest areas of town looking for the person who killed his one true love, Goldie.
Killer hookers. What more do I need to say?
Ok, this movie was totally wicked! I loved Robert Rodriguez’s work in Once Upon a Time in Mexico but this movie was completely different. It is done entirely in black and white with the occasional accent color. The music was awesome, the visual effects were amazing and although I found the movie to be a little long, it kept my attention.
I’d have to say that Kevin, played by Elijah Wood was my favorite character. Creepy, I know. But I loved his sneaky-ness and his Charlie Brown shirt. My least favorite character was Shellie played by Brittany Murphy. I just don’t really like her period— with the exception of the scene in the kitchen when she tells a boy to shut up or she’d cut his goods off. “Shut up and keep your hands to yourself, or I’ll cut your little pecker off.” My favorite scene is when Dwight and Jackie-boy are in the car headed toward the Pits. I don’t want to ruin it, but its pretty funny.
Frank Miller is a genius. Of course he is, he’s responsible for Batman, that sexy dark knight. And anyone who knows me is aware that I have a special affinity to Batman. The movie has lots of violence and boobs in it, but I forgot all about the boobs about a third of the way into the movie I was laughing so hard and trying to take in everything that was going on. This movie is mostly narrated with a little bit of conversation between the characters. And it has three different plot lines that all twist and come together in the end.
“She doesn’t quite chop his head off. She makes a Pez dispenser out of him.”
It is easy to analyze the social commentary of this movie in the corrupt politicians and religious figures, but my favorite part was how Old Town was run by she-warrior prostitutes. Girl power to the max. Use what you’ve got right? To a certain point, yes. The only thing I didn’t like about the prostitutes of Old Town was the actress Alexis Bledel was cast as a hooker. And not just any hooker, she is the leak in Old Town, the bad prostitute. I like Rory too much to see the same girl play such a role. And her eyes are this eerie glow of blue. Its not natural.
I couldn’t find my favorite quote… I really don’t remember what it was, but if I saw it I’d know. I think Marv said it.
