Client vs Designer.

My Starbuck’s cup says: “Do not kiss your children so they will kiss you back but so they will kiss their children and their children’s children.” – Noah benShea
This is definitely me: I have a café mocha with a shot of peppermint from Starbucks in my hand, a Mac in my lap, my glasses on, and I am listening to some great music. Mmm I haven’t had a good cup of coffee in a very long time.
My nerd status has been confirmed. Why? Because I got really excited over this: before and after. And the fact that I took screen shots so I could show it off. Notice how the only one that validates in the first image isn’t even the real index page! Argh, I’m useless. However, I am really proud of all of those valids. Especially after all the trouble I’ve been having with this project. It’s almost done, it’s almost done! I win the internets!
In my Advertising Management class last semester, we had to read a chapter in our textbook entitled “Creativity and Advertising.” It’s pretty much the only thing I remember from the class, but that is because it pertains to my life. This chapter talks about the creative genius and how creative personnel and management personnel are like water and oil, they don’t mix well. My situation is a classic case of that. “Creatives provoke. Managers control. [Designs] that win awards for creative excellence don’t necessarily fulfill a client’s business imperatives.” It is very frustrating having all of your creativity and hard work dismissed so easily. This is a good learning experience. Putting book smarts to use in real life.
I love my job. I really do. I am going to miss it while I am in DC.
Congratulations!
I’m trying so hard to avoid a category of behavior called “nerding out” but I think it’s inevitable. I wonder if this does Markdown on the comment text or I need to insert tags myself, hmm. Dang, did it again.
Psh, nerds rock!
