Cheeseburger Bill.

A word of advice from me to you: don’t wear the same pair of contacts for 3+ months. It sucks. Someone needs to remind me to call the eye doctor on Tuesday.
The US House of Representatives has voted 276-139 for a bill that would prevent lawsuits against the food industry for making people fat. “The so-called Cheeseburger Bill bans frivolous lawsuits against producers and sellers of food and non-alcoholic drinks arising from obesity claims.”
I am a big HUGE supporter of what I like to call “people for Congressmen who don’t spend my tax money to make stupid laws” and this new one definitely walks that fine line between stupid and necessary. One of my favorite ‘dumb’ ones is a bill which would require theaters to list actual movie start times. I can understand that people get annoyed by the thirty minutes of commercials and previews before the actual movie starts, but I think they can just get over it and our elected officials can use the little time they have to make more important decisions.
Part of me thinks “its about time they made a law like that.” I mean, come on people! It’s not McDonald’s fault you’re fat! First off, because of recent legislation, fast-food chains are required to publish their nutritional information. It is not only available in the restaurant, but online. I haven’t been fortunate (is that the correct word?) enough to see Super Size Me, but I’m pretty sure I don’t want to see it. We are given the freedom to choose what we want to eat, and because of our good fortune as a country, we citizens are able to indulge and eat that yummy greasy fast-food whenever we choose. As a whole, Americans are the fattest people on this planet and its because we are lazy and we love our quarter-pounders with cheese!
A small part of me thinks “why did Legislators have to make a law like this?” People can be so dumb sometimes. Get off your lazy butt, eat a salad and go ride your bike. Its a beautiful world out there, you just have to get out and enjoy it!
It’s a toss up for me. I don’t think its right to have to regulate people and waste the courts time as a consequence of stupidity. But then again I don’t want stupidity taking up the court’s time because of frivolous lawsuits. It seems either way it’s a waste of the court’s time due to stupidity.
