A week in the life of me.
Oct 20th, 2006 by Kate
Sit back ladies and gents, this will be a doozie. This past week has been amazingly fun and I feel inclined to write about it.
New toy:
I am finally in a financial position where I can afford to buy a new laptop without having to charge it. So I did. I am also a huge nerd, this is what I did: Wednesday at work I went to the Apple site and printed off the page with the computer I wanted and then did the same with the upgrades page. I highlighted what I wanted, took it into the Apple store and handed it to the guy tell him THIS is what I want. I even calculated the price, plus tax, down to the penny. I knew exactly how much it was going to cost me. Oh, and I even got to use the student discount. (Teehee.) I’ve got a new MacBook 13/2.0/2X512/80/SD White. It’s pretty, now I just need to get internet at home or hack into one of the secured wireless networks. *puts hacker cap on*
Jet setting:
San Antonio on Monday and Tuesday, Lubbock on Thursday. I’ve just been all over this great state of ours this week.
Jill, one of my good gal pals from high school picked me up at the airport and we had dinner at that swanky restaurant called Cappy’s. I had the hardest time picking what I wanted for dinner (price was no object- expense it!) but I ended up getting the Mustang Chicken: fresh horseradish & Japanese breadcrumb crusted chicken breast with Dijon cream & pecan rice. Oh man was it tasty! After diner, Jill and I went to Amy’s Ice Cream in the Quarry Market. The ice cream was amazing, and the Quarry Market was just as fun. It was kind of late so most of the stores were closed, but we did some window shopping. All of my favorite stores are in that shopping center— Victoria’s Secret, Restoration Hardware, Ann Taylor, White House Black Market and the Gap. I’m glad they were closed and I brought a suitcase small enough to only hold what I needed for that night.
Our meeting was at 9am with Eye Care Centers of America. Our main contact over there is the VP of Marketing, Brett. He’s the one who has nicknamed me “Katy Poo” We had a great meeting, accomplished a lot, and Brett paid me a very high compliment in front of Matt, the President of Apollo. He said that I am very good about asking questions and getting thing done. Score! Toward the end of the meeting we were making conversation about glasses and trends and I said something about how I started wearing glasses when I was 8 and that I never wore glasses from the kids section—my first pair were those huge glasses that were popular in the early 90s. Brett was like “you were 8 in the early 90’s?!” Hehe, yes. Wednesday morning when I spoke to him on the phone he told me that he didn’t realize that I was /that young,/ but that I am very mature for my age.
Yesterday Chad and I flew out to Lubbock to meet with United Supermarkets. It was a sales call meeting, as well as a chance for me to meet them as their new account manager. They have some very nice facilities and some cute (but married) boys working for them! When Chad and I got back in our rental car (it was a Saturn, at least it’s still a planet) Chad told me that he should take me on sales calls more often. “Look at Kate, now listen to what I’m telling you. Make sure you’re still looking at Kate. Kate, smile pretty. Now sign this contract.” When we got to the airport, we went thru security and TSA finally decided to search my bag. I’ve been on a ton of flights in the past couple months, 3 in the past week, all with the same items in my bag, never declaring anything in the bag and making it thru security without any problems. They finally caught me and took away my lip gloss and eye drops. Meh, they can have them. They were free anyway. I just got a big chuckle out of the fact that it took this long for them to catch them. Way to go TSA.
I slept most of the way home, flying makes me a bit ill, but I looked out the window when I woke up and saw these two towers sticking out above the horizon. It was Denton! I identified UNT, and then followed 35 down to Lewisville and found my apartment. It was just like google maps, except in real time and I had no control over it. Then, when we got to downtown, we went a bit further south and did a loop around to land headed north. I was on that flight that I see flying over downtown every afternoon that scares the crap out of me because its so close.
Hot date:
I was at the Best Buy at 635 and Midway last night when I came across this really cute guy. We went over to the car stereo section so he could show me want he wanted to get to put in his car. Then he said “I’m hungry, let’s go eat.” I suggested we head up north of the Galleria on Belt Line to see what we could find in that shopping area. He saw this quaint little place sort of in the back called The Dream Cafe and decided he wanted to go check it out, so that’s where we had dinner.
I called the girls and told them that I would not be making it to Denton for “Craft Night,” but would be having dinner and hanging out with my favorite little brother instead. We were going to meet at our Aunt’s house but they were out having dinner so we met at the Best Buy, he wants mom and dad to get him the new car stereo for his birthday. Having dinner with him was very nice. I don’t get to see him too often because he works alllll the time (just like I do!) so we got to sit down and catch up on each others lives.
After dinner we went back to our Aunt’s house to say hi to the family. Our Aunt Susan is so great, she loves to catch up on what is going on in our love lives. Always a fun conversation on my end. David’s is pretty boring, he’s got a long term girlfriend.
Television:
I missed Studio 60 on Monday night because I was out with Jill in San Antonio, but I watched it during “lunch” on Wednesday.
I can’t believe Jeffery won project run way! If you know anything about me and my style, you could assume I was rooting for Laura, but based on the runway show I think Uli should’ve won. Michael missed the mark completely. But I had a conversation with Lisa, one of Jason’s clients, this morning and I agree with her that Jeffery’s designs are the most innovative and fashion forward even though he is an asshole. I have no doubt that all four of the finalists will have amazing careers in the fashion industry; I just wish Uli would’ve won.
I missed last night’s Grey’s so I will be spending my “lunch hour” today watching it online. I’m so glad they put the episodes online for me to watch. I’d be so sad if I really had to miss an episode of the greatest show currently on tv.
Latest news: T.R. Knight is gay. That doesn’t change my huge crush on George. They’re two different people. T.R. may be gay, but George is still very straight and very adorable. Unless they make him gay on the show, then he’d be the perfect best friend.
Other:
I have the /best/ Halloween costume ever. I can’t wait to win the office Halloween Costume Contest.
And have a good laugh.
