Planning the Ceremony.
On a Sunday morning in June, the Mister and I sat down with the pastor who is going to marry us and discussed married life. Once we finished discussing things like finances, conflicts, communication and not loving each other at every moment, we got to the fun part- the ceremony. I opened my handy dandy wedding binder and pulled out the ceremony outline I had created:
Our Ceremony Outline:
Welcome and Prayer
Statement of Purpose
Presentation of the Bride
Vows
Rings
Unity Candle
Communion
Roses to the mothers
Benediction
Pronouncement
Later, the pastor told my parents that if I had been around when God created the earth, it only would’ve taken 3.5 days. What a compliment to my organization!
We will be having a traditional Protestant ceremony with a couple twists- for example, the rose ceremony is typically something found in a Catholic wedding. We aren’t going to be having any special songs sung, or scriptures read. These don’t resonate with us. We will be lightning the unity candle, but our parents will come up and join us at the altar where we will light the candles together instead of having our parents light the candles at the beginning. I guess it’s the Information Architect in me that wants to take existing things and improve upon them to make the whole experience better. What can I say? I’m good at what I do.
When creating the outline, I used a couple resources I found online and consulted some of the books I have gathered over the past couple months. Here is a small list of some great ceremony planning resources:
