Etsy.

Do you know Etsy? Have you two met? If not, then you definitely should! Etsy is “the world’s most vibrant handmade marketplace.” It is “a place to buy and sell all things handmade.” I love the quote on Etsy’s wikipedia page: “It has been compared to ‘a crafty cross between Amazon, eBay’, and ‘your grandma’s basement’.” Etsy makes money by charging a listing fee of 20 cents for each item and getting 3.5 percent of every sale, with the average sale about $15 or $20 and mostly sold by women.

After this whole wedding thing is over, I’m seriously considering opening my own Etsy shop.

I love browsing through the Handmade Wedding tags and Wedding category to see all the goodies people are making. And Etsy is not all about weddings, that just happens to be my train of thought for the moment (or last 6 months…). There are so many other amazing handmade goods for sale on the site. It’s like the Louvre: you could spend all day browsing and still not see the whole thing!

Another thing I love about Etsy is Alchemy, which is where buyers can post requests for custom handmade items, and then sellers bid on the opportunity to make the goods. I am currently working with seller MeandMatilda on custom made sashes and ties for our bridal party. Be sure to check out her shop, I fell in love with her tie designs and sent her a custom request.

I made my first ever purchase on Etsy last week. I bought a wire “W” for my wall of monograms from Etsy seller kristinemay’s shop. Look, here’s my transaction!

Excellent find on the ties! I’ve been wondering where the heck to get ties for the groomsmen without resorting to department store styles.

I heart Etsy. It’s the perfect website to shop for gifts.
